Right to Work Like Dogs

Wikipedia
The turquoise states on the map are red states, of course. Indiana is a red state going for the “right-to-work” law. Among the 22 right-to-work states:

13 are in the top half of violent crime rates by state:
AL,AZ,AR,FL,GA,KS,LA,NV,NC,OK,SC,TN,TX

14 are in the top half of infant mortality rate:
AL,AR,FL,GA,KS,LA,MS,NC,OK,SC,SD,TN,VA,WY

12 are above the national average in food stamp recipients:
AL,AZ,AR,FL,GA,LA,MS,NC,OK,SC,TN,TX

14 are in the bottom half of personal income per capita by state:
AL,AZ,AR,GA,ID,IA,LA,MS,NC,OK,SC,TN,TX,UT

15 are in the bottom half of child well-being by state:
AL,AZ,AR,FL,GA,LA,MS,NV,NC,OK,SC,SD,TN,TX,WY

20 of the 22 right-to-work states make at least one hit on these categories; Nebraska and North Dakota are the exceptions.

The prize winners, hitting all five categories, are AL,AR,GA,LA,NC,OK,SC,TN.

Runners-up with four hits each: AZ (lower infant mortality rate),FL (higher personal income),MS (lower violent crime rate), and TX (lower infant mortality). Indiana hits just two so far: lower personal income per capita, and higher infant mortality rate.

That's a really nice piece of work, Pete. One of my favorites, a factoid that turned up during the 2004 conventions in some place like Harper's or Atlantic, was a survey that showed the most complaints about shows like "Dangerous Housewives" came from red states -- which also had the highest viewership of that series. Hypocrisy seems to be the real "base" of the reds.
